Rapid responses are electronic letters to the editor. They enable our users to debate issues raised in articles published on thebmj.com. Although a selection of rapid responses will be included online and in print as readers' letters, their first appearance online means that they are published articles. If you need the url (web address) of an individual response, perhaps for citation purposes, simply click on the response headline and copy the url from the browser window. Letters are indexed in PubMed.
We agree that Health workers are vital to sustainable development goals and universal health coverage. Doctors, one of the health care providers are the most trained, skilled and knowledgeable among all health care providers (that include nurses, voluntary health care workers, etc). In rural and remote areas they either do not like to be posted or if employed shirk their work due to lack of facilities and/or security and/or difficulty in approaching. Our suggestion is that the doctors should be drawn (selected or nominated) from the community who will easily adjust with the job in that milieu or a bond can be filled by him that he will serve in that area for some duration after qualifying the course.
